Lee Hyun-Gon (Hangul: 이현곤, Hanja: 李賢坤) (born Feb 21, 1980 in Gwangju, South Korea) is a third baseman who plays for the Kia Tigers in Korean professional baseball league.

Amateur career

Lee attended Gwangju Jaeil High School in Gwangju, South Korea. In 1997, he was selected for the South Korean Junior National Team that finished in the 5th place at the 1997 World Junior Baseball Championship in Canada. Lee led the attack alongside Jung-Keun Bong (the eventual MVP of this event) and Hee-Seop Choi, by hitting .480 and 3HRs.

After graduation from high school, he got into Yonsei University instead of turning pro directly. In 1998, he was selected for the South Korean Junior National Team once again and participated in the 1998 Asian Junior Baseball Championship.

In his senior year at Yonsei University, he was selected for the South Korean National Team (this team was made up of only college players) and competed in the 2001 Asian Baseball Championship in Taiwan. The team eventually won the silver medal, and Lee swept most batting record titles (home run and batting averages) including All-Star selection.
