Kathleen Kucka

.Kathleen Kucka, (born in Hartford, Connecticut) is an American painter.

Education

Kucka became Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1984, at the The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York. In 1994 she became Master of Fine Arts at the Hunter College, also New York.

Work

Kucka main works are drawings and paintings. The work gives an abstract impression. The technique Kucka uses is based on applying various layers. The lowest level consists of straight or curved lines in various colours of paint, including sometimes traces of burnt canvas. The upper layer is made of transparent material, probably Mylar. At the underside of this thick lines of paint are used. In this way, the painting gets a certain depth.

Kucka uses acrylic paint on a surface such as aluminum or linen canvas.

Benjamin Genocchio from the New York Times [ [http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/02/nyregion/nyregionspecial2/02artsli.html Recensie New York Times] ] , thinks the work of Kucka looks like microscopic images of human tissue. He was referring to the exposition "I Dream of Genomes" in the Islip Art Museum in 2008.
