Open Water World Championships

The Open Water World Championships are an annual event of FINA, were long-distance, non-pool swimming events are contested. Currently, distances of 5,000, 10,000 and 25,000 meters (5K, 10K, and 25K) are contested.

In years of the main World Championships, the Open Water events are contested with the other aquatic disciplines. Outside of these years, an independent championships has been held, beginning in 2000.

In 2008, the event was held in Seville, Spain, May 3-8. This served as the main qualifying event for the 2008 Olympics 10K event.
