Ilya Grubert is a
Latvia n classical violinist. He has wonPaganini Competition andTchaikovsky Competition in 1978.Born in
Riga , Grubert began his studies at theEmil Darzin School of Music . He has studied underYuri Yankelevich and Zinaida Gilels, and then underLeonid Kogan at theMoscow Conservatory . He earned his first international success at theSibelius Competition in 1975. Subsequently, he won first prize in both the Paganini Competition inGenova and the Tchaikovsky Competition inMoscow in 1978.Since then Grubert has had a distinguished career and performed with orchestras such as the
Moscow Philharmonic ,St. Petersburg Philharmonic , theRussian State Orchestra ,Dresden Staatskapelle ,Rotterdam Philharmonic , and theNetherlands Philharmonic . He has worked together with conductors such asMariss Jansons ,Gennady Rozhdesvensky ,Voldemar Nelson ,Mark Wigglesworth , andMaxim Shostakovich .Now Grubert lives in
Holland and is a professor at theAmsterdam Conservatory .External links
