Archil Gelovani

Archil Gelovani ( _ka. არჩილ გელოვანი; _ru. Арчил Викторович Геловани) (November 14 1915August 19 1978) was a Soviet Georgian military commander, Chief Marshal of Engineering Troops (маршал инженерных войск; 1977). Gelovani joined the Soviet army in 1939. During World War II, he was responsible for fortifying and reconstructing the Black Sea ports. He then served on various top military engineering posts, including being a Deputy Minister of Defence for Construction and Billeting of Troops from 1974 until his death. An avenue in Georgia's capital Tbilisi has been named after Marshal Gelovani.
