Jerome Asaro

Illegal activities

According to the US prosecutors and law enforcement, Asaro, a recognized Caporegime of the Bonanno crime family, was involved in labor and construction racketeering, illegal gambling, extortion, loansharking, securities fraud, and narcotics distribution in various areas of New York City. Reportedly a Queens faction leader, Asaro is also the brother of fellow Bonanno crime family captain, Vincent "Vinny" Asaro. Indictment and guilty plea

In early February, 2007, Asaro and 18 other high-profiled members of the Bonanno crime family, including reputed acting underboss Nicholas Santora and acting consigliere Anthony "Fat Tony" Rabito, were arrested on federal racketeering and state RICO charges, ranging from bribery to murder. Asaro was charged with conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering, racketeering conspiracy, illegal gambling, extortion, extortion conspiracy and narcotics distribution, therefore facing over 25 years in prison. Asaro was also released on bail following the massive indictment. He was released from custody and got out on bail on February 7, 2007. As of September, 2008, Asaro is incarcerated in the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention center. His projected release date is November 2,2010.
