Prior to joining Columbia, he served as a senior consultant in theBoston office ofMcKinsey . He continues to consult to McKinsey on issues revolving around pricing, supply chain management, operations management and corporate finance.Dr. Kachani is the current Chairman of the Financial Services Demand Optimization Council, a non-profit consortium of financial industry professionals, consultants, academics, and technology providers dedicated to advancing research, insights, and use of optimization science to improve the competitiveness of financial services companies. He served as the 2006 Vice-Chair and the 2007 Chair of the Revenue Management & Pricing Section of
INFORMS . Dr. Kachani serves onColumbia University 's Senate –the university's governing body– where he is an elected representative of Columbia's School of Engineering. He sits on the Senate Executive Committee and the Senate Budget Review Committee.Dr. Kachani has been honored with the Columbia Engineering School Alumni Association 2005 Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award for his dedication to teaching and devotion to mentoring students. He has also been honored with the 2007 Columbia Engineering School Kim Award for Faculty Involvement, an award that recognizes one faculty member who goes above and beyond the call of duty to foster student success. He is a recipient of the
Karl Taylor Compton Prize, the highest award presented by MIT to students in recognition of achievements in citizenship and devotion to the welfare of MIT. He is also a recipient of the MIT Center for Transportation Studies UPS Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, the MIT Robert Guenassia Fellowship and the French Government Fellowship of Academic Excellence. At MIT, Dr. Kachani served as President of the Graduate Student Council and as a keynote Speaker, representing the graduate student body, at the MIT Commencement Exercise. Dr. Kachani is an avid reader and chess champion.
