division_titles = NoneThe Philadelphia Bulldogs were a professional football team in the Continental Football League, playing the 1965 and 1966 seasons. The team was formerly the Cleveland Bulldogs and before that the Canton Bulldogs in the United Football League. Throughout their five years of existence they were quarterbacked by Bob Brodhead, generally conidered the best minor league quarterback of the era. Brodhead had played at Duke University with Sonny Jurgenson prior to being an original Buffalo Bill quarterback when the American Football League began in 1960.
The Bulldogs were coached by Boris 'Babe' Dimancheff from 1962-65 and by Wayne Hardin in 1966. They won the Continental Football League Championship in 1966. They played home games at Temple Stadium.
Other Bulldogs stars included former Oakland Raider defensive end Carmen Cavalli, receivers John Drew, H D Murphy, and Dave Washington, and running backs Claude Watts and Dewey Lincoln.Defensive stars included defensive backs Sherman Ross and former Denver Bronco cornerback Buddy Allen, plus former Green Bay Packer defensive tackle Ron Gassert.
