Philippines . According to the2007 census, it has a population of 77,122 people in 13,773 households.History
The municipality of Polangui was originally called "Binanuaan". It was founded by Fr. Baltazar de la Magdalena with the baptism of about twenty-five of the town's elderly citizens. The town then consisted of five hundred people. Its location was a low lying area that was prone to floods. The people later moved to the town's current location, an elevated area less exposed to flood. The town derived its current name from "oyangi", a type of tree that was abundant in the area.
The 10-year construction of the parish church began in 1654 by Fr. Juan Bautista. Camilo Jacob, a photographer and resident of Polangui, was executed along with other Bicolanos in January 1897. A year later, the "Guardia Civil" in Naga City led by Don Elias Angeles mutinied against Spaniards. This ended the Spanish rule in the
Bicol Region .Barangays
