Early life

Bobby Shields was born in Clarion, Pennsylvania on November 26th, 1981. He never participated in any organized sports, aside from doing Judo off and on for years, which, according to Shields, helped prepare him for pro-wrestling.

Training

He left Clarion for Rochester, New York, where he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology majoring in Information Technology. He started training for professional wrestling his freshman year, attending SuplexU, the New Millennium Wrestling's training academy. His trainers included Kevin Dunn (not of the WWE but ROH's Ring Crew Express), Marcos (Ring Crew Express), Eric Everlast, Hellcat, and former ECW/current ROH star H.C. Loc. NMW went out of business in April of 2002.

Shields continued to train at KCW with Kasanova Kato, and returned to Rochester to train with "Sik" Rik Matrix. Shields has also attended several wrestling clinics over the years.
