New Mexico Activities Association . District 2-AAAA currently includes five Northern New Mexico high schools with a student population of over 800+ students. In 1999, the New Mexico Activities Association reclassified high school athletic programs for the 2000-2001 school year. At that time, an additional Class AAAAA was created for the state's largest schools.In 2000, there were five high schools placed in the reclassified District 2-AAAA: Capital, Española Valley, Los Alamos, Taos and Saint Pius X of Albuquerque. This alignment remained for five years until St. Pius X was placed in the newly created District 5-AAAA. Capital, Española Valley, Los Alamos and Taos remained in District 2-AAAA until the fall of 2006, when Bernalillo joined to create the current membership.
Schools in the District 2-AAAA:
*Bernalillo High School
*Capital High School
*Española Valley High School
*Los Alamos High School
*Taos High School * Bernalillo Most recently a AAA school before entering AAAA in 2006. BHS has been a NMAA member since 1952.
* Capital was a AAA school from 1988-1996, CHS was placed in 2-AAAA for 1996-97 school year and remained in 2-AAAA after reclassification.
*Española Valley is the oldest school of the 2-AAAA district, it has a been a AAAA school since the 1975-76 school year, EVHS was in district 1-AAAA prior to being placed in 2-AAAA in early 1996 and remained in the same district after reclassification in 2000. EVHS has been a member of the NMAA since 1976.
*Los Alamos was in 2-AAA from 1992-2000 after dropping in classification from Class AAAA. With the reclassification of 2000, LAHS was placed in 2-AAAA. Los Alamos High has been a NMAA member since 1947.
*Taos was a member of 2-AAA from 1970 through 2000, THS was placed in 2-AAAA as a part of reclassification. Taos High has been a member of the NMAA since 1924.District Championships
