Patrick Laude is a
scholar andauthor . His works deal with the relationship betweenmysticism ,symbolism andliterature , as well as focusing on important spiritual figures such asSimone Weil ,Louis Massignon andFrithjof Schuon .Biography
Born in France in 1958, he took an undergraduate degree in History and a graduate degree in Philosophy at the University of Paris IV Sorbonne while a Fellow at the
Ecole Normale Supérieure inParis . He came to the US in the early eighties and obtained a Ph.D. in French literature in 1985 fromIndiana University . He is currently Professor of French atGeorgetown University , where he has been a faculty member since 1991.Laude's scholarly work is primarily focused on the study of symbolic imagination in literature, particularly in 19th century poetry, and in the examination of concepts of the
