- Elias Kifle
Elias Kifle is the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Washington DC-based [http://www.ethiopianreview.com Ethiopian Review] , a widely-read English/Amharic language Ethiopian journal that was launched in January 1991. The journal is currently available online at [http://www.ethiopianreview.com ethiopianreview.com] .
He is known as one of the most vocal critics of the current government of Ethiopia. On top of expressing his strong views about his dissatisfaction with the government, as a member of [http://tegbar.org/?p=56 Tegbar] he has been organizing protest rallies and meetings around the world to speak out against the policies of the ruling party, the Tigray People's Liberation Front.
In 2007, Kifle, along with a few other Ethiopian journal editors, had been [http://www.cpj.org/attacks06/africa06/eth06.html charged] by the Ethiopian government of treason and in absentia and were sentenced to life in prison. According to government sources, extradition request has been filed with the U.S. Government to hand over Kifle to the Ethiopian authorities.
