Tally's War

Tally's War

Tally's War was an incident in 1863 in Iowa, in which pro-war individuals opened fire on a peace demonstration; several people were killed.

Cyphert Tally was a pro-Southern minister shot by Union supporters in August, 1963 in South English, Iowa. His supporters gathered near the Skunk River outside Sigourney, Iowa. Iowa Governor Samual Kirkwood sent the Iowa Home Guard to Sigourney to put down a possible riot.
