General Sir Herbert Vaughan Cox GCB KCMG CSI (
12 July 1860 –8 October 1923 ) was aBritish Indian Army officer.Cox was born in
Watford , the son of theRector ofUpper Chelsea . He was educated at Charterhouse and theRoyal Military College, Sandhurst , and was commissioned into the25th Foot (later theKing's Own Scottish Borderers ) in 1880. adjutant of theSouth India Railway Volunteer Corps before being appointed Deputy AssistantAdjutant-General forMusketry inBurma . Soon afterwards he was appointed DAAG of Imperial Service Troops. He served on the Mohmand andTirah Expedition s and in theBoxer Rebellion , being promotedMajor in 1900. When theFirst World War broke out he was given command of theGurkha Brigade inEgypt ,Arabia andGallipoli , where he was wounded.
