Eric Sykes (cricketer)

Eric Sykes (cricketer)

Eric Sykes (June 23, 1906 — December 7, 1989) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who played for Derbyshire. He was born in Bolsover and died in Athersley North.

Sykes made three first-class appearances during the 1925 season, two near the beginning of the campaign and one near the close. Sykes enjoyed a contrasting first-class debut, at the age of just eighteen, his debut first-class innings being a half-century, and his second a duck. Sykes underperformed in his second match, and played just one further game during the season, an innings defeat against Lancashire.

After a lay-off of seven years, Sykes returned for the 1932 season, in which he played two games, but with less success, failing to score in double-figures in the four final innings of his career.

Sykes' father, Ernest, made a single first-class appearance for Hampshire in 1895.
