- Microfridge
The Microfridge was invented by Robert Bennett
Structure
The structure of the aluminum beast rests on the foundation built of four golfball-sized rubber feet. The larger body of the Microfridge is composed of a
refrigerator and afreezer . The refrigerator has a variable temperature meter, allowing one to adjust between extremes of 28 degrees Fahrenheit and 50 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer cools between -1o and 2o Fahrenheit. The classy and elegant exterior of the microfridge is made of plastic and metal, allowing one to place any magnetic objects on to the Microfridge itself.Vents in the side allow quick exhale of air pockets.
It is recommended that the user plugs the fridge component's plug into the outlet located on the back of the microwave. It provides a convenient organization amongst the devices. However, many microfridge users have experienced circuit shortages.
Varieties
The main manufacturer of the microfridge is Microridge Inc. ( [http://www.microfridge.com] )
Their at-home products range in size, from 2.7 cubic feet to 10.3 cubic feet.
"Another key to creating a green dorm room is to buy those Energy Star-rated electronic devices and appliances. Again, they may not be the cheapest versions on the market (an energy-efficient MicroFridge model goes for $189US at Microfridge.com). But they use up to 50% less energy than non-Energy Star models, which can translate into major savings in greenhouse-gas emissions."
The students at
Boston University for example, use a model with 600 watts of power, and a cooking timer of up to 30 minutes for the microwave component. The luxurious dimensions of the microwave are 13"W x 13 1/2"D x 10"H. The fridge/freezer component dimensions are "18 1/2"W x 15 1/2"D x 22 1/2"H" and "18 1/2"W x 13 1/2"D x 10"H", respectively. [BU Dining Services]Uses
The microfridge has become part of the quintessential American college dorm room. Many use the refrigerator part to store copious amounts of beer, Kool-Aid, and other beverages. Food becomes a problem to store (rotting, etc.).
