The French-based international journalists' rights group "Reporters Without Borders" condemned the Iranian government for suspending the daily Shargh simply because it published Pourmohsen's interview with Ghahraman "in which she defended homosexuals". Homosexuality is illegal in the Islamic republic.cite web|url=http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=11bccbe7-4274-40e9-8f15-45df4476f0f3&k=39534|title=Canada West News Service article|accessdate=2008-06-18]

The daily Kayhan, a conservative newspaper in Iran, explained the official view in its statement: "Media observers believe that Shargh has interviewed this homosexual while aware of her sick sexual identity, dissident views and porno-personality."cite web|url=http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=11bccbe7-4274-40e9-8f15-45df4476f0f3&k=39534|title=Canada West News Service article|accessdate=2008-06-18]

Of her interview with Pourmohsen for Shargh, Ghahraman told CanWest News Service, "They wanted to talk to me about poetry and literature. I talked about poetry, and when they asked me about ethics, I gave my opinion regarding ethics, about motherhood belonging to both men and women. They've shut down the newspaper because they don't like having a moderate newspaper at the time of elections."cite web|url=http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story.html?id=11bccbe7-4274-40e9-8f15-45df4476f0f3&k=39534|title=Canada West News Service article|accessdate=2008-06-18]
