Bible Society in New Zealand

Bible Society in New Zealand

The Bible Society in New Zealand was established in New Zealand in 1846 and since then its main task has been to supply the Scripture needs of New Zealanders. They do however fund overseas Bible work. The Bible Society in New Zealand works alongside the United Bible Societies (UBS) which manages Bible need worldwide.

In the early days Bible Society volunteers walked or travelled on horseback throughout frontier regions in New Zealand, distributing Bibles to remote settlers and Maori people.

Through the years, the Bible Society has worked closely with the churches. It aims to serve all denominations and confessions in providing the Scripture materials that they require. The Bible Society sees the church as its prime customer, but serves all those who can accept and read the Bible.

The Bible Society in New Zealand distributes all recognized and approved versions of the Bible in English, plus Scriptures in up to 80 different non-English languages to meet the needs of recent immigrants. It is an agent for many overseas Bible publishers in addition to publishing some of its own Bibles and distributing other Bible Society editions.
