J-five

Jonathan Kovacs (more famous under the name J-five or J-5) is a Californian singer, rapper and songwriter born on the 26th of March 1982 in Hollywood.

Biography

Jonathan Kovacs is the second oldest of four children, all born in Los Angeles. During his childhood, his father and mother, from France and Austria respectively, introduced him to artists such as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. As he grew older, he discovered newer artists such as A Tribe Called Quest,
Nas and the Wu Tang Clan, all of which would later prove very influential to his music.

He attended North Hollywood High School, although he was often absent.

Aside from being a solo act, Johnny 5 currently fronts the rock band Dusty White (as Jonathan Kovacs).

His first album, «Summer» by «Johnny five» outline a personality impregnated with his passion for rap (in particular the avant-garde experiences lead by DJ Shadow, Blakcalicious or Lyrics Born), his musical heritage (one uncle fan of the Beatles, a father fan of blues and of the Stones) and a tendency for the sonic deluges of grunge... He chose his pseudo "J-Five" when he began to participate in rap battles. It is a short cut for Johnny 5, the name of the little robot in his favorite movie "Short Circuit".

Modern Times

J-Five begun his solo career in 2004 with the first single "Modern Times". In this song, he pays tribute to Charlie Chaplin. [ [http://top40-charts.com/songs/full.php?sid=9596&sort=chartid The track is number one on Billboard in France ] ] .

A music video was realised to illustrate this track, playing the review of the movie «Modern Times» in New York in 1936, with the exclusive participation of Dolores Chaplin, the granddaughter of the famous actor.

In November 2004, J-Five released his album «Sweet Little Nothing», a mixture of rock, rap, funk, jazz and folk tones.
