George Maltby

George Maltby

George Maltby (October 1, 1876July 30, 1924) was an English cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman who played first-class cricket for Derbyshire. He was born in South Normanton and died in Huthwaite.

Maltby made his first-class debut against Warwickshire in July 1905, hitting a duck in his debut innings, an innings dominated by a 176 from Levi Wright. Oddly, in the same match, Warwickshire's seven-time England Test representative Willie Quaife hit an innings of the same total before the close of the opposing innings. Derbyshire were unsuccessful in this match, and later in the same week, Maltby appeared against Leicestershire.

Maltby's third and final first-class appearance came in an innings defeat against Sussex at Hove, after which he was dropped from the team.
