Kataron

Shirin Bakhtiar is a fictional character in the Gundam series, "Mobile Suit Gundam 00".

Outline

First Season

Shirin's role in the first season was very minimal as she served as a chaperon and advisor to Marina Ismail at the Azadistan Royal Palace. She has great political knowledge but cannot take part in the Azadistan government in an official capacity. Consequently, her words and behavior have a bite to them. When Celestial Being attacks the rogue Union nation of Taribia instead of America, Shirin comments that this outcome should come as no surprise and explains that it helped quell anti-American sentiment in the region. Shirin also privately declares that if Marina can't figure that out, she is not the one who can save Azadistan. [http://mahq.net/animation/gundam/00/g00ep4.htm] Later when they are both watching a press conference announcing Taribia's return to the Union, Marina thinks that they planned the whole thing out in order to manipulate Celestial Being. Shirin disagrees and says she thinks that Celestial Being attacked Taribia because they are so dedicated to their state goal of ending armed conflict, even if it means turning public opinion against them. [http://mahq.net/animation/gundam/00/g00ep5.htm] When Marina meets with UN representative Alejandro Corner, Shirin is suspicious of him because the UN has nothing to gain from helping Azadistan. [http://mahq.net/animation/gundam/00/g00ep9.htm] Shirin tells Marina to anticipate the worst case scenaro, which is civil war, when Rasul Massoud Rakhmadi, a local religious leader, is kidnapped by Ali Al-Saachez. Towards the end of the first season, she leaves Marina for unknown reasons after the four-year timeskip.

econd Season

Four years later, she joined the anti-A-Laws resistance group Kataron, along with Klaus Grad and Lyle Dylandy. She is first seen discussing the recent destruction of an asteroid base by A-Laws with Klaus. Shirin thinks they should delay their rescue operation on the Proud colony, but Klaus disagrees. They later discover that Celestial Being has reappeared along with its Gundam units and their intervention allowed Kataron to successfully rescue their captured comrades on Proud. Shirin worries that Kataron might face such an intervention, but Klaus is more optimistic and says that they both work on the same principles.
