homepage = [http://www.stibbe.nl www.stibbe.nl]Stibbe is an Dutch
law firm based inAmsterdam . It is the alliance partner ofHerbert Smith andGleiss Lutz . The firm was founded in 1911 by D.W. Stibbe. In 1991, the firm then known as Stibbe, Blaisse & De Jong merged withBrussel -based Simont & Simont to rebrand as Stibbe & Simont. The combinedLow Countries firm then embarked upon a European expansion strategy.Paris was its next target and in 1993 the firm merged with local firm Monahan & Duhot to rebrand again as Stibbe Simont Monahan Duhot.The firm once pursued merger talks with
Lovells , the English firm to launch a truly pan-European practice. However, these talks were unsuccessful. Frustrated with the slow international expansion, after a string of high-profile departures by key rainmakers to such firms asJones Day ,Sullivan & Cromwell andWillkie Farr & Gallagher , theParis office comprised of legacy Monaham & Duhot partners defected toLatham & Watkins in 2001. Stibbe (rebranded yet again for a shorter name) then joined the alliance ofHerbert Smith andGleiss Lutz in 2002. It is the only member of the alliance to field an office in theUnited States , where it advises on Dutch andEuropean Union law.Today the firm numbers some 340 lawyers generating €95 million in revenues in 2005.
