Kenneth John Moule (June 26, 1925,
Barking - January 27, 1986,Marbella ,Spain ) was an Englishjazz pianist, best known as a composer and arranger.Early in his career, Moule played piano with
John Dankworth (1945),Jiver Hutchinson (1948),Bert Ambrose (1953-56), and others. He also led his own septet from 1954-56. In 1956-59 he arranged forTed Heath 's orchestra, and during this time composed the suite "Jazz at Toad Hall", based onKenneth Grahame 's "Wind in the Willows ", which was released onDecca Records in 1958. "Jazz at Toad Hall" received significant critical acclaim on its initial release.In the 1960s, Moule worked freelance as an arranger, especially with
Lionel Bart . His "Adam's Rib Suite" was recorded by theLondon Chamber Jazz Group in 1970;Kenny Wheeler was involved in the recording, which was issued onEmber Records . He scoredCole Porter songs for the musical "Cole!" performed at theMermaid Theatre in 1974, and worked with Dankworth again around that time with hisLondon Symphony Orchestra collaborations. He worked out ofGermany for part of the 1970s.References
