Wakelon was built in 1908 and served as an elementary school until the student population became too large for the facility.GlaxoSmithKline purchased Wakelon School from the Town of Zebulon in 1986 and used the building for office space. In March 2007 voters approved to repurchase Wakelon to be used as the new town hall. Renovations began in early 2008 and is expected to last until the end of the year.cite web| last=Whitfield| first=Johnny| title="New town hall foremost on agenda in Zebulon in 2007" | work=| publisher="Eastern Wake News"| date=2007-12-31| url=http://www.easternwakenews.com/news/story/1852.html| accessdate=2008-05-03]ee also
