Gela Charkviani

Gela Charkviani is the Georgian ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland. He was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, the son of Candide Charkviani a leader of the Georgian Communist Party who had been accused in the Mingrelian Affair under Stalin. Gela attended the University of Michigan. He was a professor of Sociology in Georgia and anchored a television program on diversity. From 1984 to 1992 he was Vice-President of the Georgian Society for Cultural Relations. After the Rose Revolution he advanced to his current position.
