- Telcordia Service Interconnection Community
Launched in March 2007, the
Telcordia Service Interconnection Community is a member-based initiative forInternet Protocol (IP)-based communications [ [http://www.telcordia.com/services/interconnection/community.html Telcordia - Service Interconnection Community ] ] . The goal is to create a community of suppliers whose network elements andOperations Support Systems (OSSs) interoperate with the Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry [ [http://www.telcordia.com/services/interconnection/registry.html Telcordia - Service Interconnection Registry ] ] . Telcordia Service Interconnection Community members currently includeAcme Packet , Broadsoft, NetNumber, NextPoint andNominum .The Telcordia Service Interconnection Community benefits service providers by accelerating the adoption of
voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) andIP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) -based services via IP interconnection and by aiming to reduce integration costs by helping to ensure that network elements and OSSs interoperate with the Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry [ [http://www.newtelephony.com/news/73h1914361316711.html Telcordia Launches Service Interconnection Community ] ] .The Telcordia Service Interconnection Registry is designed to reduce integration costs for service providers by bringing only tested and validated solutions for IP interconnection to market. It is a trusted, centrally managed registry that enables inter-carrier routing and rating for both
Time-division multiplexing (TDM) - and IP-enabled services. It allows carriers to interconnect via IP to deliver VoIP, IMS and other converged services over IP connections, when and where available [ [http://telephonyonline.com/software/technology/telcordia_sir_community_032007/ VON: Telcordia forms community for service interconnection ] ] .Currently, most IP-originated phone calls are routed through the
Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) [ [http://telephonyonline.com/software/technology/telcordia_sir_community_032007/ VON: Telcordia forms community for service interconnection ] ] . VoIP and IMS-enabled communications that originate on an IP network have to be routed via the PSTN for call completion. As such, service providers do not achieve the benefits of end-to-end IP services. The Telcordia Service Interconnection Community reduces risks and uncertainties associated with blind session termination, which leaves service providers in the dark as to whether their sessions eventually get terminated as an IP session or a session over the PSTN [ [http://telephonyonline.com/software/technology/telcordia_sir_community_032007/ VON: Telcordia forms community for service interconnection ] ] .See also
