Saltmills (Irish: "Muileann an tSáile") is a small village located in the south-west of County Wexford, in Ireland. The village is located a the head of a small inlet that enters Bannow Bay.

History

The village of Saltmills was built on the instructions of Caesar Colclough in the early 19th century, sometime shortly after 1814. It was built to replace the former village of Tintern - which Colclough had demolished, as he considered it to be located too close to his Abbey home.

Details

The village contains a shop and a Protestant church (known as Tintern Church of Ireland church). There is also a small Bridge.

Also located here is the "Colclough Memorial Hall", which is used for community activities. It is named after the Colclough family who once lived at nearby Tintern Abbey. The Colcloughs first arrived at the former Abbey in the 16th century and left in 1959.
