Summercourt fair

SUMMERCOURT FAIR, located Nr Newquay, Cornwall the biggest village fair in the county, with the [fairground rides] and markets drawing thousands of people to the village.
Summercourt Fair is about 800 years old and was then known as The Long Fayre and was held on the outskirts of Bodmin, many miles from its present location. This fair was held each year on September 14, said to be a feast day of the local saint, St Petroc of Bodmin.

This fair had the distinction of being mentioned in the Great Doomsday Book of 1085, when it was recorded that in 1066 it had been held at Merther-Sithney or Sithney in the manor of Methleigh. The new governor of Cornwall decided to move it to a field near the great highway to St Michael Mounts.
