SUMMERCOURT FAIR, located NrNewquay ,Cornwall the biggest village fair in the county, with the [fairground rides] and markets drawing thousands of people to the village.Summercourt Fair is about 800 years old and was then known asThe Long Fayre and was held on the outskirts ofBodmin , many miles from its present location. Thisfair was held each year on September 14, said to be a feast day of the local saint,St Petroc of Bodmin .This fair had the distinction of being mentioned in the Great
Doomsday Book of 1085, when it was recorded that in1066 it had been held atMerther-Sithney or Sithney in themanor of Methleigh . The new governor ofCornwall decided to move it to a field near the great highway toSt Michael Mounts .
