Emanuel Pastreich serves as the director of the
Asia Institute atSolBridge International School of Business inDaejeon ,Korea (part ofWoosong University ). Pastreich also serves as advisor to the governor ofChungnam province, for foreign relations. As the first non-Korean ever appointed to this position, Pastreich is deeply involved in recruiting foreign direct investment, promoting tourism, introducing abroad Chungnam’s agricultural products and planning for a multicultural future for the region.Pastreich teaches courses in international relations, business leadership & business communications.
Pastreich’s articles extend over such subjects as globalization, the Internet, Taiwan Straits issues, Sino-American relations, the Korean Peninsula and contemporary American politics and have appeared in such journals as Japan Focus, Foreign Policy in Focus,
The Harvard Journal of Asiatic Studies and the Northeast Asia Peace and Security Daily Report of the Nautilus Institute.Pastreich taught previously atUniversity of Illinois andGeorge Washington University . He served as editor of the official newspaper “Dynamic Korea” of the Korean Embassy and as advisor to the Minister for Public Affairs (2005-2007).Pastreich has a B.A. degree in Chinese literature from
Yale University (1987). He has a master’s degree from theUniversity of Tokyo in comparative culture (1992) and a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages and Cultures fromHarvard University (1997). He graduated from Lowell High School in San Francisco (1983). He is fluent in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
