Herina

Herina

Herina-Monchsdorf (germ.)-Herina (rom.)-Harina(hun.)Herina is a Transylvanian village that was founded in the twelfth century by the German colonists, who originally named it "Mönchsdorf" (meaning "village of the monks") due to a Catholic monastery being built at the same time. It was a large village considering Transylvania's multiple difficulties in the twelfth century. When Germans converted to Lutheranism in the sixteenth century, the monastery was closed and further development of the village was halted. Since the village could not afford to restore the church to the Gothic form, the Romanesque architecture is well-preserved; a clear sign of this is the triple-window design.
