TerraNW

TerraNW

TerraNW (spoken "Terra Northwest") is a regional economic development, sports and tourism program built around winter sports. TerraNW connect international winter sports teams and elite athletes with sustainable training, competition and marketing opportunity as they prepare for international events, including the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Under the guidance of the Pacific Northwest Economic Region, TerraNW partners include the Canadian provinces of British Columbia and Alberta and the U.S. States of Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

The program is patterned on Idaho's successful strategy around the 2002 Winter Olympics that included partnership with the host state of Utah and other mountain states. A number of US and International winter sports teams did at least a portion of their pre-Games training in Idaho, particularly the Sun Valley area. Venues

The [http://www.terranw.org/views/Public/Venues/VenuesOverview.view venues database] currently provides information about the Pacific Northwest region's ski and snowboard venues, ice arenas, jumps and bobsleigh runs. Finding training venues is often a challenge that international teams encounter due to their unfamiliarity and limited access to visit these sites. TerraNW enables interested teams to match their needs with the facilities offered by different regional venues.

Training

The Pacific Northwest encourages the hosting of international winter sports teams training in preparation for the numerous world cups, major events and 2010 Olympics. TerraNW helps international winter sports teams evaluate and contact potential training venues.

Most training for the 2010 Winter Olympics is expected to begin in the winter of 2009 and continue until March 2010.

Athletes

*"Philip Boit", three-time Olympic Cross Country Skier from Kenya, began his training for the 2010 Olympics in the Methow Valley of Washington from February to March 2008.
