Introduction
Located near Albro Lake in the north end of Dartmouth, the Dartmouth Masjid was one of the earliest mosques in Nova Scotia. The mosque was built by the contributions of several local Muslim philanthropist in the 1960s. Since then, the mosque serves as a place of worship and social gatherings for Dartmouth's Muslim community. Until 2005 there was no permanent Imam assigned to the masjid. This changed with the arrival of Imam Hamzah Mangera. Since then, five times daily prayers are established in the masjid. The Masjid is presently managed by Islamic Association of Nova Scotia and is one of the largest mosques in the Maritimes.
Notable events
The Masjid was destroyed by a fire in late 2006. The efforts of several individuals saw the Masjid reconstructed for services to resume.
The Dartmouth Masjid has been active in providing socializing opportunities to the local community. Every month a potluck dinner is organized by the Masjid.
A weekly Quranic Tafseer program is conducted every Friday evening. The Masjid also organizes boys and girls camps during the summer months.
