Shipston-on-Stour in 1900, James Leaf attendedHarrow School , playing a match for them againstWinchester College in 1918. From Harrow he went toRoyal Military College Sandhurst , and on graduation was commissioned as asecond lieutenant in the15th Hussars on24 December 1920 .
