It provides instruction for kindergarten to grade 12 students from the expatriate community of Beijing. Founded in 1994, nearly 400 students from 40 different nationalities attend the school.

History

Beijing BISS International School was founded in 1994 under the ISS Education Group, Singapore. The other school under the Group is the International School Singapore (ISS) which has been in Singapore since 1981, and the Centre for American Education (CAE).

Accreditation

BISS is an IB world School, authorised to run the IB Primary Years Programme, IB Middle Years Programme, and the IB Diploma Programme. BISS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the National Centre for Curriculum and Textbook Development (NCCT) Ministry of Education, China; a member of the Council of International Schools (CIS); the East Asian Regional Council of Overseas School (EARCOS); founding member of the Association for China and Mongolia International School (ACAMIS); and licensed by The Beijing Educational Commission.

BISS Mission

The BISS mission is to enable all students to realise their full potential in a caring and positive, learning community. While pursuing excellence in education, the BISS teachers and students also learn in a close, supportive environment that emphasises the importance of each student as an individual.

Campus

BISS is a small-sized school located conveniently near one of the major expatriate residential areas in Beijing just off the North Third Ring Road. The campus is close to central Beijing, the Asian Games Village and the Olympic Stadium - the Bird Nest. The location is important as it creates a strong link to the local community.

BISS has all the essential facilities for school life including class and music rooms, library, resource rooms, drama studio, art room, design and technology centre, labs and multimedia rooms etc. Outdoor facilities include play areas, running track and multi-purpose court for basketball, football, hockey and vollyball.

BISS has a private clinic on campus for staff and students, staffed by a full-time doctor.
