It lies in the valley of the river Mislinja to the southeast of the town of Slovenj Gradec. The area was traditionally part of Styria. The entire municipality is now included in the Carinthia statistical region.[2]
Remains of the Celea to Virunum Roman road that ran through the Mislinja valley have been identified near the settlement.[3]
Slovenj Gradec Airport is a small airport located in the northern part of Mislinjska Dobrava.
