Lloyd Scott

Lloyd Scott MBE (born 13 October 1961 in Stepney, East London) is the Director of Fundraising for the pioneering charity THE AUTISM TRUST. Famous for being ‘that bloke’ who took over five days to finish the London Marathon in a heavy antique diving suit, Lloyd Scott’s courage and achievements are extraordinary.

Lloyd was a professional goalie and a London fire fighter who made the news when he saved two children from a dreadful fire when they’d been left home alone. Just hours later, his life was turned upside down when he discovered he had life-threatening Leukaemia.

Having battled his own illness successfully, he knows how important it is to be a positive role model, to encourage others to face their fears, to live life to the full and to become the best you can be.

Lloyd’s great sense of fun and his positive attitude to life are clearly evident in the imaginative feats of endurance he devises to raise awareness and funds (an incredible £5million to date) for Leukaemia and Cancer charities. He has ridden across Australia on a Penny Farthing and completed the first underwater marathon in Loch Ness. (In fact, Lloyd has now completed major fundraising events on all seven continents.) In 2006, Lloyd finally crossed the finish line to complete the London Marathon after 8 days dressed in a full suit of armour weighing 100lbs, dragging a 200lb dragon. Sir Steve Redgrave was there to greet him because, with Lloyd’s help, he had smashed the world record for individual fundraising - a staggering £1.8m.

He finished the course on Friday 18th April 2008 at around 9.00am cheered on by all his family, his friends, members of THE AUTISM TRUST and the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Scott has been injured during some of his events. For example, he injured his shoulder during the underwater marathon when he fell off a 15 foot ledge while in the loch. After being awarded an MBE in 2005, Scott joked that the award should stand for "Mad, Bonkers & Eccentric".
