Cojak

Cojak

The COJAK project is a 18-months coordination and support action supported by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme. It represents the follow-up project of the ASIACOOP project and aims at further strengthening strategic cooperation projects between Europe and Japan as well as Europe and South Korea in the ICT field.

Objectives of the COJAK project

Building upon ASIACOOP achievements, the COJAK project will aim at contributing to the development and continuity of dialogue between stakeholders and of cooperation projects between the EU and Japan/South-Korea. It will allow to more precisely set an appropriate framework in which European and local organisations can develop their cooperation projects in the ICT sector.

Contributing to raising awareness on Seventh Framework Programme ICT in Japan and South Korea and widely disseminating project perspectives and results are two other objectives of the project and will allow to maximise the impact of the project in the European and Japanese / Korean ICT communities.

Project activities

* The COJAK project will organise periodical seminars over the 18 months project lifetime alternatively in Asia (Japan and South-Korea) and in Europe (6 are planned over the project period) with key stakeholders: research centers or national research and funding agencies, industries, chambers of commerce, etc. in order to discuss (not on a political, but more “operational” level) about the problems and potential solutions to really make happen S&T cooperation between Europe and Japan/Europe and Korea.
* Organisation in Europe (Brussels) of a “ [http://www.eurojapan-ict.org/Events.html 2nd EU-Japan Cooperation Forum on ICT Research] ” (date to be announced soon) and of a “ [http://www.eurosouthkorea-ict.org/UpcomingEvent.html 2nd Korea-EU Cooperation Forum on ICT] ” on Oct. 23 & 24, 2008 (200 delegates expected at each event) follow-up events to the ones organised by ASIACOOP in Japan and South Korea beginning of 2008.
* Activities aiming at ensuring the widest project impact and the largest involvement of the ICT communities of both regions: websites, preparations and dissemination of project documentation, direct promotion of the project in the EU and Japanese/South Korean ICT communities, etc.

Impacts of the COJAK project

The COJAK project, through its different planned activities, will have an impact on the effective development of S&T cooperation with Japan and South Korea on ICT, which is considered of strategic interest for the EU.As the COJAK project is a follow-up project, building on the achievements of the ASIACOOP initiative, the “young” emerging R&D relationships created by this initiative will be indeed reinforced and intensified through the COJAK project. Moreover, other impacts, such as the identification of new cooperation opportunities, and the promotion of EU ICT programme, etc. will be obtained too, always without losing track of the overall aim of the FP7 programme: the support of European competitiveness. The planned Cooperation Events organised in Europe will provide European organisations support to their efforts in establishing and strengthening cooperation links with Japanese and South Korean organisations. With the EU-Japan and EU-South Korea Seminars, the bilateral dialogues between key stakeholders from both regions should be enhanced, and a more appropriate framework for the quick development of cooperation projects between the EU and Japan/South Korea will be generated. Also, the intense promotion, dissemination and awareness activities developed will contribute reaching the above-mentioned impacts.
