Leonard "Lennie" Hastings (born 25 January, 1925 in
Carshalton - died 14 July, 1978 inLondon ) was an Englishjazz drummer.Hastings played in military bands during
World War II , then played withFreddy Randall (1950-54) andAlex Welsh (1954-57). Following these engagements Hastings played in local combos and led an ensemble inDusseldorf , then played withNat Gonella briefly before rejoining Welsh. He was Welsh's drummer for well over a decade, during which time he also recorded withEarl Hines ,Rex Stewart ,Eddie Davis ,Ben Webster , andBill Coleman .In 1972 he left Welsh's group due to failing health, but would record later in the decade with
Brian Lemon ,Stan Greig ,Dave Shepherd , andFred Hunt . He played at thePizza Express , a London club, in his later years, and toured withWild Bill Davison andRuby Braff . He led his own quartet shortly before his death.References
