Rl'nnd is a fictional alien character in Marvel Comics' Marvel Universe. A Super-Skrull with the powers of several X-Men, Rl'nnd is part of the Secret Invasion and was first appearance in "Ms. Marvel" (vol. 2) #25.

Publication history

In May 2008, Rl'nnd made his first appearances in a Secret Invasion tie-in storyline in Brian Reed's "Ms. Marvel" series; starting issue #25.

Fictional character biography

Rl'nnd is the son of Rm'twr, a Skrull who was killed by NASA head of security Carol Danvers long before she became Ms. Marvel."Ms. Marvel" volume 2 #25]

As part of the Skrull Secret Invasion, Rl'nnd was first seen at an A.I.M. base preparing to go on a mission to find a Kree man; revealed to be Ms. Marvel's boyfriend, William Wagner. At the same time, a Skrull posing as Ms. Marvel had already got to Wagner.

Rl'nnd shapeshifts his way on to a S.H.I.E.L.D. Minicarrier after both the Skrull Ms. Marvel and the real Ms. Marvel are captured. Posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Sum, Rl'nnd attempts to interrogate Ms. Marvel to learn the command codes to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier but is quickly outed by Ms. Marvel and the two begin to battle. ["Ms. Marvel" volume 2 #26] The culmination of the battle, Ms. Marvel's team use lethal force and kills Rl'nnd. ["Ms. Marvel" volume 2 #26] ["Ms. Marvel" volume 2 #27]

Powers, abilities and appearance

Rl'nnd, being a Skrull, has the species' natural ability to shape-shift. However, Rl'nnd is also a Super-Skrull given the powers of several X-Men as opposed to both Super-Skrull (who has the powers of the Fantastic Four) and Paibok (whose powers derive from Electro and X-Men members Colossus, Iceman, and Storm). Rl'nnd's X-Men powers include:

* The organic steel skin, superhuman strength, resistance, and durability of Colossus.
* Wolverine's retractable claws and acute senses.
* Nightcrawler's teleportation and prehensile tail.
* A more controlled version of Cyclops' optic blasts.

Rl'nnd's appearance is that of a metallic skinned Skrull, with glowing red eyes, wearing a Colossus-inspired black and yellow suit and wrist bands with Wolverine-style tipped boots and a Nighcrawler tail.

Other versions

Prior to the first appearance of Rl'nnd, another Secret Invasion Skrull, that took part of Skrull Black Bolt's attack on the Illuminati ["New Avengers Illuminati" #05 (September 2007)] , looked almost identical to Rl'nnd and displayed all of the same powers. This Skrull was caught up in a massive explosion and supposedly killed at the end of "New Avengers Illuminati" #05. However, Brian Reed, writer of this Secret Invasion tie-in story who would go on to write Rl'nnd's first appearance in Ms. Marvel, stated that they are not the same Skrull.
