Abdul Ahad

Abdul Ahad ( _bn. আবদুল আহাদ ) (1920-1994) was a renowned lyricist and music director from Bangladesh. Born in Rajshahi, Ahad developed an interest in music from his student life and became the first Bengali Muslim to get admitted into Shantiniketan. In 1941 he joined HMV, Calcutta and gradually became a popular music director for the recording industry as well as the film industry. After the Partition of India, Ahad joined Radio Pakistan and became a key person in the Musical arena of Dhaka. He introduced many new talents to the music world, compsed numerous songs and wrote several books on Bengali music. The Government of Bangladesh awarded him the Independence Day Award, the highest civilian award of the country, in 1978 to recognize his contribution to the national life.
