A knee scooter, also known as a knee walker or knee cruiser, is a three or four-wheeled alternative to crutches or a traditional walker. Over the years it has taken on many forms. In its current iteration the knee scooter is slowly becoming the device of choice for those recovering from, or experiencing lower extremity difficulties. The objective of manufacturers developing this mobility device is to create a safe and easy-to-maneuver alternative to the traditional crutch. Prior to the introduction of the knee scooter, those experiencing foot surgery,
bunion ectomies, gout , below the kneeamputations ,diabetic ulcers and wounds, as well as footsprains , orfractures had no choice but to limit activity during rehabilitation. Their only option was to relegate themselves to crutches, a traditionalwalker , awheelchair orbed rest .These days, a patient’s need to continue with their daily tasks has pushed forward the development of the knee scooter. Today’s version is a lightweight foldable device that with the knee flexed, supports the shin of the unusable limb. The opposite foot makes contact with the floor or ground providing propulsion.
