- Kurt South
Kurt South is an American singer-songwriter based in
Fort Worth, Texas . He began writing songs after graduating from Texas Christian University, his first composition being the underground country hit "Pawn Shop Guitar". That song and nine other original compositions became his debut album, "Loaded", released in 2003 by Rabid Dog Records. Upon the album's release, South and his band began touring Texas and Oklahoma extensively, headlining their own shows as well as opening for veteran acts such as Mike McClure, Phil Pritchett, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. From 2003-2005, South played around 200 shows a year, becoming a seasoned live act whether solo or with his band. In 2006, South began playing mostly solo acoustic shows, trying to hone his craft as a songwriter. He released an acoustic EP, "Seven Songs", that has become a fan favorite with its stripped-down production and strong lyrics. "Boulevard", "Waking Up", and "Caroline" appeared on the EP and soon became live show staples and helped South reach audiences all over the Southeast. In the Fall of 2006, South reassembled his band and recorded "River City Blues" with Phil Pritchett producing. The album was recorded live in Pritchett's Trinidad Worldwide Recording Studio in Fort Worth, capturing energetic, honest performances of South's new batch of songs. South and his band went back at touring again in support of the album, logging thousands of miles over 150+ shows. 2008 brought the release of another EP, "September Sessions" and another EP is slated for release in May of 2008. South is currently touring as a solo act and as a trio with his brother, Kent South on lead guitar, lap steel, and mandolin, and Chip Searcy on percussion.
