Shakespeare's Way runs for 235km (146mi).
The Route
The waymarked route (which opened in 2006) runs from
William Shakespeare 's birthplace inStratford-upon-Avon inWarwickshire to the modernShakespeare's Globe (near the site of the originalGlobe Theatre ), on the south bank of theRiver Thames inLondon which replicates a lateElizabethan period or earlyJacobean era theatre of the period.The route is intended to shadow a possible route taken by the Bard of Avon himself when journeying between London where he acted and wrote his plays and his house, wife and children back in Stratford.
The route passes through part of the
Cotswolds , theChiltern Hills , the valley of theRiver Stour, Warwickshire ,Oxford and enters theThames Valley atMarlow, Buckinghamshire before following theGrand Union Canal and then theThames Path intoLondon .External links
