24 December 1909 ,Montreal, Canada –4 June 2006 ,Chevy Chase, Maryland ) was a Canadian–Americanchess master.Born into a Polish family in Canada, he became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1936. At the
University of Wisconsin–Madison he earned a B.A. in 1932 and an M.A. in 1938. He was a division chief at theBureau of Labor Statistics , and a Washington chess expert.
