The story is about Bolt, a white
German Shepherd who has lived all his life on the set of a TV show in which he portrays a superhero dog, and as a result thinks that his superpowers are real. Later, he gets accidentally separated from the studio. He then meets a femalecat named Mittens and ahamster with an exercise ball named Rhino, and eventually he discovers that all of his powers are fake. The film was originally titled "American Dog", and was written and directed by
Chris Sanders (director of "Lilo & Stitch "). Sanders has since been removed from the project and was replaced by Chris Williams andByron Howard . John Lasseter along with other directors from Pixar and Disney viewed a couple of early cuts of the film and gave Chris Sanders notes on how to improve the story. According to Lasseter, Chris Sanders was replaced because Sanders resisted the changes that Lasseter and the other directors had suggested.
