- Sol Yaged
Sol Yaged (b. December 8, 1922) is an American
jazz clarinetist strongly influenced byBenny Goodman .Yaged was born in
New York City , and began playing clarinet after hearing Goodman's broadcasts forNabisco in 1935. He studied under a clarinetist for theNew York Philharmonic , but turned down a classical career to play jazz in New Yorknightclub s such as Jimmy Ryan's and the Swing Club. After serving in the Army inWorld War II , Yaged played withPhil Napoleon ,Coleman Hawkins ,Red Allen , andJack Teagarden . After the 1950s Yaged worked primarily as an ensemble leader, working for decades on the New York jazz scene. In the 1990s he worked inFelix Endico 's Swing Band.Yaged was a consultant on Benny Goodman's musical style for the 1956 biopic "
