John McDermott (born June 26, 1980 in Basildon, England) is a English heavyweight boxer from Horndon-on-the-Hill, England. He is a two-time challenger for the British Heavyweight title

On 18 April 2008, McDermott won the vacant BBBofC English heavyweight title, knocking out Pele Reid in the 2nd round. He had fought for the same title once before in 2004 losing on that occasion to Mark Krence. In September 2007 he had become the mandatory challenger for a second crack at the British title beating the Welshman Scott Gammer on points over 10 rounds. He had fought for the title once before in December 2005 losing in the 1st round to Matt Skelton.

McDermott finally faced Danny Williams at Goresbrook Leisure Centre, Dagenham on 18 July 2008. He was defeated controversially by a majority points decision.cite news
