Andrew Richter,
Ph.D. , is an assistant professor in the department ofpolitical science at theUniversity of Windsor inWindsor, Ontario ,Canada . Dr. Richter obtained his Ph.D. fromYork University in 1998, and between 1998 and 2001 was a post-doctoral fellow at the Institute of International Relations at theUniversity of British Columbia . His primary areas of research are Canadian foreign and defense policy,
nuclear proliferation , and the impact of advanced technology on the use of force. He teaches and lectures widely in the field of strategic studies. His contributions to the Windsor school of political theory in this field have been highly regarded.His most recent book is "Avoiding Armageddon: Canadian Military Strategy and Nuclear Weapons, 1950-1963". He has also published in a wide array of journals, including "International Journal", "Comparative Strategy", and "Naval War College Review". Currently Dr. Richter is in the process of carrying out a comprehensive review of all recent literature on the Canada-US defence realtionship since the mid 1990's. The goal is to create a database on bilateral political/military disagreements and disputes over the period from 1995 to 2005, which will lead to a future publication in the field.
Awards
In Fall 2007, Dr. Richter received the
Fulbright Visiting Research Chair in Canada-U.S. Relations at theWoodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Washington, DC. He has also received the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Research Grant, 2006-2009.Publications
