Staayi

Staayi or Stayi- pronounced (Sty-yi) is the equivalent of the Western Octave. It is used mainly in South Indian Classical Music (Carnatic Music). There are 5 types of Staayi's used in the Carnatic Music and each denotes for the way in which the Swaram (note) is sang. The octave ranges from Shadjam (Sa) to the higher Shadjam (Sa).

Out of the Staayi's the most commonly used is Madhya Staayi.
